Obama's adviser doesn't rule out Ahmadinejad meeting

The US is willing to give sanctions against Iran time to work before turning to other ways to prevent it from developing nuclear weapons, a top White House adviser said on Wednesday.

Jim Jones, US President Barack Obama's national security adviser, told CNN that Obama will not rule out the chance to meet with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Jones reiterated that the Obama administration would keep on pressuring Iran to end its nuclear program but that Washington believed it had breathing space before considering military action.

"We want to give these sanctions a good shot at working before we do anything else," Jones told CNN, referring to new UN measures in addition to those taken unilaterally by the US government and European Union to punish Iran for its nuclear defiance.
