Veteran MK Zevulun Orlev conceded defeat in the primary election for the leadership of Habayit Hayehudi late Tuesday night, making former Yesha Council chairman Naftali Bennett the new leader of the religious-Zionist party.

Bennett won some 60 percent of the vote with more than half of the primary ballots tallied, prompting Orlev to call him and congratulate his rival on the victory.

Orlev announced that he would be retiring from politics and not running for the 19th Knesset.
