PLO Executive Committee member Hanan Ashrawi on Tuesday denounced Foreign Minister Avidgor Liberman's remarks regarding the Palestinian bid for non-member status at the United Nations, calling his comments "false and provocative."

“Such arrogant threats are false and provocative, and they constitute a serious attempt by the Israeli government to intervene in internal Palestinian affairs,” Ashrawi said in a statement.

Ashrawi's comments come in response to Liberman's plans to hold an urgent meeting of Israeli Ambassadors in Europe in Vienna on Thursday over the Palestinian bid for non-member state status at the United Nations General Assembly this month, and following reports that Liberman stressed a unilateral statehood bid would put an end to the chances to resume peace negotiations.

Ashrawi emphasized: “This sends a clear message to the international community and to the Palestinians that Israel is more committed to annexing land than committing to peace.”
