President Shimon Peres on Tuesday referred to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as "the modern day Haman of our generation," in reference to the villain of the biblical Book of Esther.

Speaking during a visit to the succa of Shas spiritual leader Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, Peres said that all necessary steps must be taken to stop Ahmadinejad, but adding, "We would be happy if it were possible to get rid of him in a non-military manner."
