President Shimon Peres condemned Thursday the events of the previous night, which brought unprecedented violent disturbances against African migrants in south Tel Aviv.

The president called on all citizens of Israel to avoid manifestations of racism.

"Xenophobia is against the foundation of Judaism," the president said. "I am aware of the difficulties experienced by the residents of south Tel Aviv neighborhood, but violence is not a solution to the problem," Peres said.
