Police set to close Hollywood publicist death case

Investigators looking into the fatal shooting of a prominent Hollywood publicist are preparing to close the case.

Beverly Hills police Chief David Snowden tells The Hollywood Reporter in a story posted on its website Wednesday that police will formally close the investigation next week.

Snowden says the final ballistics report confirm previous findings that a gun used in 43-year-old Harold Martin Smith's suicide in December was the same one used to fatally shoot publicist Ronni Chasen on Nov. 16 as she drove home from a film premiere.

Investigators believe Smith, who has a long criminal record, shot the 64-year-old Chasen in an attempted robbery. Snowden says there is no additional evidence to review in the case.

Police had previously looked into the possibility that Chasen was targeted by a hit man.
