Rabbi Pinto's wife attempts suicide amid bribery probe

Rivka Pinto, the wife of influential kabbalist Rabbi Yoshiyahu Pinto, attempted suicide by taking an overdose of pills at the couple's Ashdod home on Sunday, after the couple was detained for questioning last week for allegedly bribing a police officer.
Pinto was admitted to Kaplan Medical Center in Rehovot, suffering light injuries after the suicide attempt.
Amir Dan, a spokesman for the Pinto family accused the police and the Rishon Lezion Magistrate's Court of ignoring the family's requests to delay the investigation, due to the rebbitzer's psychological state. Dan also criticized the authorities for refusing the Pintos' request to place a media blackout on the investigation.
Pinto and his wife Rivka remained in house arrest over the weekend, as part of an ongoing national police investigation into allegations of money laundering and that the couple tried to bribe a senior police officer in order to gain information into a sensitive police investigation.
