A mortar shell was reportedly fired towards Israeli territory emanating from the Gaza Strip Friday evening, landing on the Palestinian side of the security fence, according to Arab media sources.

Israel's "Code Red" siren system was not activated during the incident, the report added.

The IDF has opened an investigation and is currently searching the area.
