Report: Yacimovich to advance Labor race

Labor Party leader Shelly Yacimovich has decided to advance the next leadership race in the party until December at the latest in order to prevent former IDF chief of staff Gabi Ashkenazi from running, Channel 2 reported Sunday.
Due to a legally mandated cooling off period for top IDF officers, Ashkenazi cannot enter politics until February 2014, one month before the deadline for holding the race according to Labor bylaws. Yacimovich's spokeswoman denied the report and said that no date had been set for the race.
The report also revealed that dozens of Ashdod port workers and their families had recently joined Labor in an effort to oust Yacimovich, who has criticized the leadership of the port's union.
