US Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain announced Saturday that he was stepping out of the race, after a number of charges of sexual misconduct had plagued his campaign.

Cain cited continued distractions for his decision to end his candidacy and continued hurt "caused on me and my family."

The republican continued to deny what he referred to as "false and unproved" allegations.

He said that he would be endorsing one of the other republican candidates.
