Thousands of members of the Chabad ultra-Orthodox community have arrived in New York City from around the world to take part in the yartzeit of the late Rabbi Menachem Schneerson which starts sundown on Monday.
This year marks the 70th anniversary since Schneerson arrived in America from Europe where he reestablished the headquarters of the Hasidic movement after World War II. Participants of the Jewish rite will gather near the spiritual leader’s resting place at the Montefiore Cemetery in Queens and recite prayers.
