Tunisian crew seized by Somali pirates released

TUNIS - The Tunisian members of the crew of a Panama-flagged chemical tanker seized by pirates off the coast of Somalia last November have been released, Tunisia's official news agency TAP said on Thursday.

TAP said the 22 Tunisian crew members had been "released this morning and they are on their way to Djibouti by sea." "This happened after successful negotiations led by the Tunisian government and a $2 million ransom was paid," it said.

The MV Hannibal II was seized in November 2010 while sailing to Suez from Malaysia with a cargo of vegetable oil. At the time, 23 Tunisians were listed among a crew totalling 31. It was not clear if crew members of other nationalities were also freed.
