United Airlines, Air Canada say air travel demand improving

United Airlines Holdings Inc said on Tuesday it has seen a moderate improvement in demand for air travel so far in May in the United States and some international markets, as well as a reduction in cancellation rates.

The US carrier said it expects July capacity to fall 75% from a year earlier, compared with an about 90% decline in May and June capacity.

Air Canada is also seeing an improvement in demand for air travel and fewer cancellations, Chief Financial Officer Michael Rousseau said at an online conference hosted by Wolfe Research.
Rousseau said he expects domestic leisure and business travel to pick up in summer and in fall, respectively.
