Venezuela to sever ties with Colombia

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez announced Thursday his intention to break off relations with neighboring Colombia because of Colombian officials' accusations that he has failed to act against leftist rebels alleged to have taken shelter in Venezuelan territory. The officials produced photos of the alleged camps on Thursday.
The socialist leader said that the United States is using Colombia to undermine Venezuela's efforts toward regional integration.
Chavez also stated that he doubts that Colombia's president-elect, Juan Manuel Santos, will stray from current president Alvaro Uribe's US-backed military policies.
