Vilna'i to run for JNF/KKL chairmanship in Labor election

Deputy Defense Minister Matan Vilna'i announced his candidacy on Monday to be Labor's candidate for the chairmanship of the Jewish National Fund/Keren Kaymet Le'Israel, saying that he saw the post as a first-rate challenge and a way to express his Zionism.
Vilna'i, who is close to Labor chairman Ehud Barak, submitted his candidacy after another Barak ally, Agriculture Minister Shalom Simhon, decided not to run in Labor.
Sources close to incumbent JNF/KKL head Efi Stenzler responded by calling Vilna'i a "straw candidate" and expressing confidence that he could beat any candidate in the race, which is expected to be held in three weeks.
