New park commemorates legendary Australian Light horseman; includes special facilities for disabled children.

"The Park of the Australian Soldier", an initiative of the Pratt Foundation (one of the largest philanthropy in Australia that contributes heavily towards Israeli causes), will be officially dedicated on April 28 in Beersheba.
The date coincides with ANZAC day, which falls on April 25 every year in Australia and New Zealand to remember members of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) who landed at Gallipoli in Turkey during World War I.
The park, which honors the legendary WWI Australian Light horsemen, will be attended by both President Shimon Peres and Australian Governor-General Maj.-Gen. Michael Jeffery. The Governor- General will be the first Australian head of state to visit Israel. Australian Minister for Veterans' Affairs, Alan Griffin, will also be amongst hundreds of guests including diplomatic, military, parliamentary and governmental representatives from Australia, Israel, Turkey and New Zealand.
The park includes a dual-purpose integrated playground providing specially constructed facilities for children with disabilities.
The victory of the Australian Light Horse Division's 4th Brigade against the Turkish on October 31, 1917, was a significant event in both Australian military history and in the history of the Middle East region.
