Speaking in Holon, Ashkenazi told parents of newly drafted soldiers that "those who do not serve must be made to feel ashamed."
He said, "Haredim can also join [the military], and they must be made to do so."
Ashkenazi also referred to the "Iron Dome" defense system and stressed
that it will be operational soon. "We will apply it in the right place
according to our considerations."
"It is an example of amazing technology but it is an illusion to assume
that it will provide absolute security. Eventually we will have to hit
even those who fire the missiles, like we did during Operation Cast
Lead," Ashkenazi said.
