Security Council to discuss Palestinian UN bid on Nov. 11
Diplomats say that a scheduled meeting could end with a vote on the Palestinian application for full UN membership.

NEW YORK – The United Nations Security Council will discuss its internal committee findings as to whether the Palestinians should be offered UN membership on November 11, although the matter may not come to a vote for a few more weeks.The committee on the admission of new members to the UN will report back to the Security Council on that date, at which point the Security Council will consider the committee report, but there is “still no clarity” on when a vote would take place, UN sources said.

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon, who presented the Palestinians’ letter requesting UN admission to the Security Council last month, is not involved in the process.The US has said that it would exercise its veto power over the bid for recognition in the event that the Palestinians get nine or more votes on the Security Council.Presently, sources said, it is unclear as to whether or not the Palestinians have those nine votes.Click for full JPost coverage
