A NATO and Afghan operation to retake a Taliban-controlled town has left 14 dead including two children, as US-led coalition airstrikes killed several suspected insurgents nearby in southern Afghanistan, officials said Saturday.
Afghan and NATO troops positioned themselves to the east, west and south of Musa Qala town, and at least 12 Taliban fighters and two children were killed in the fighting, according to the Defense Ministry.
Also in southern Afghanistan, a NATO soldier was killed and another wounded in an explosion Saturday, said a statement from NATO's International Security Assistance Force. ISAF did not give any further details about the nationalities of the casualties or the exact location of the incident.
