Canadian soldier killed on foot patrol outside Kandahar

A Canadian soldier is dead and another wounded in a gun battle with Taliban militants in Afghanistan.
Brigadier-General Guy Laroche says the soldier's patrol was ambushed along a roadway outside Kandahar. Laroche says the soldier's name is not being released immediately, at the request of relatives.
The soldier was part of a civilian military affairs team that attempts to reach out to local Afghans.
Eighty three Canadian soldiers have died in Afghanistan.
