China mobilizes 100,000-strong anti-terrorism force for Beijing Olympics

China is mobilizing a 100,000-strong anti-terrorism security force to guard against threats to August's Beijing Olympics, the Xinhua News Agency said Thursday. Police commandos, specialist units and regular army troops make up the force, which was activitated following drills earlier this month, the report said. It also incudes the elite paramilitary Snow Wolf Commando Unit that has been tasked with anti-terrorism and anti-riot duties surrounding the Games, Xinhua said. The Beijing Olympics organizing committee's security director has been quoted by the report as saying the group had been activated in case of terrorist acts in the lead-up to next month's games.
