NATO: 20 insurgents killed west of Kabul; no NATO troops killed

The NATO-led force in Afghanistan said its troops assaulted an insurgents stronghold just west of Kabul, sparking a two-day long battle that killed 20 militants. In a statement Monday, NATO said that the battles took place in Wardak province, which has become an insurgent stronghold at the gates of the capital just 40 miles (60 kilometers) west of Kabul. NATO said its troops were flown into Wardak's Jalrez District on Thursday and were attacked by insurgents, sparking a two-day battle in which airstrikes were used to kill more than 20 militants. No NATO troops were killed in the clash.
