NATO soldier killed in Afghanistan after militant ambush

A NATO soldier died after being ambushed in southern Afghanistan, while US-led coalition troops killed several militants near the capital, officials said Wednesday. Militants also killed a district police chief in the eastern Nangarhar province Wednesday after striking his convoy with a roadside bomb, said Sayed Mohammad, a provincial official. The militants fired on a NATO patrol in Kajaki district of Helmand province on Tuesday, a statement from the alliance said. The soldier was initially wounded and later died, it said. NATO did not release the nationality of the dead soldier. Most of the troops in Kajaki are British.
