A mother has been accused of beating her 11-year-old daughter with a mop handle and then leaving the vomiting, bleeding child in bed for days until she died, officials said Monday.
Police were called to the Brooklyn apartment around 6 a.m. Sunday, and the child, Alejandra Vasquez, was already dead.
An autopsy performed Monday found the girl had been beaten to death with a blunt object and had bruises in various stages of healing, meaning she had been beaten before.
The mother initially claimed the girl had been in a fight but later confessed to the beating after hours of being questioned by police, according to a law enforcement official. She claimed it happened Thursday, the official said.
