A German official said Chancellor Angela Merkel's Cabinet expects to meet Monday to decide on a rescue plan for the country's financial sector.
The official said Saturday that the Cabinet will meet midday Monday to take the issue up. He spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to comment.
German media reported the government was working on a British-style rescue and that the Cabinet was expected to pass the plan.
The government has only said that it has a duty to examine all "conceivable options."
Merkel refused to give details Saturday, saying: "On Monday there will be more clarity."
