Police: 15 killed in pre-dawn fire in Japan

At least 15 people were killed in a pre-dawn fire in a video shop in Osaka, western Japan, on Wednesday, police said. The blaze broke out in the video shop located on the first floor of a seven-story building in downtown Osaka, an Osaka police spokesman said. Kyodo News agency said the cause of death was believed to be carbon monoxide poisoning. Authorities were investigating the cause of the fire, which broke out at around 03:00 a.m. Kyodo said the 15 dead were male customers of the video shop. They were found in individual rooms equipped with a bed and TV set. A variety of videos are available for rent at such shops, including Hollywood films, cartoons and adult movies.
