Police: Landslide kills at least 7 construction workers in Indian Kashmir

A landslide Thursday killed at least seven workers building a highway through a mountainous region in India's portion of Kashmir, police said.
Deputy Inspector-General of Police Hemant Lohia said rescuers were searching for seven more workers feared buried under the rubble by the landslide near Thalharan village, about 160 kilometers (100 miles) southeast of Srinagar, the summer capital of India's Jammu-Kashmir state.
The chances of them being found alive were slim, Lohia said, adding that seven bodies had already been pulled from the heap of boulders, rocks and loose earth.
The all-weather highway was to connect the Kashmir valley with Jammu, the state's winter capital. The construction work on the new highway was resumed this week after four months of harsh winter, he said.
