Report: Turkey's prosecutor: Ruling party 'focal point' for anti-secular activities

Turkey's chief prosecutor demanded Friday that Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's ruling party be disbanded, state-run media reported.
Abdurrahman Yalcinkaya filed a court request for the closure of ruling Justice and Development Party, accusing the party of "being (the) focal point of anti-secular activities," the state-run Anatolia news agency said.
The party won more than 46 percent of the votes in a general election last year, which came after political turmoil over who should be Turkey's president.
Erdogan's party has been at odds with Turkey's secular establishment, which is backed by the military, which sees itself as the guardian of secular republic.
The main opposition Republican People's Party has accused the government of trying to scrap Turkey's secularist traditions.
