United States Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice expressed her hopes late Monday night that Hamas would cooperate with the demands imposed on it, so that the US could resume transferring funds to the Palestinian Authority government. She stated that until Hamas conceded, the US would continue to work with PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas, and would continue to aid the Palestinian people. Both the US and the European Union have previously demanded that Hamas recognize Israel's right to exist, abandon terrorism and respect all previous agreements to which the PA was committed.
