Police shot and killed two gunmen during a house search in eastern Chechnya, the regional Interior Ministry said Tuesday. It was the second shootout in the Gudermes region in as many days.
Chechen Interior Ministry officers were checking houses in the village of Noviye Gordali late Monday when they discovered two gunmen holed up in a house, the ministry said.
The two militants refused to surrender and the gunbattle erupted, the ministry's spokesperson continued.
