Two UN aircrafts with cargoes of food are heading to Georgia's capital Tbilisi to assist thousands of people displaced by days of fighting.
The World Food Program says the two Antonov 12 aircrafts carrying 34 metric tons of high energy biscuits departed Wednesday from Brindisi, southern Italy. The biscuits require no preparation, as many of the displaced have no access to cooking facilities.
The Rome-based UN agency started distributing food over the weekend. It said its food rations have reached more than 4,500 displaced people living in shelters in Tbilisi.
