US advises all Americans to leave Georgia

The US State Department is recommending that all US citizens leave Georgia due to continued Russian bombing of civilian and military targets despite the Kremlin's claim to have halted military operations in the former Soviet republic. In a new travel warning, it says the security situation throughout Georgia remains uncertain, and it is organizing a third evacuation convoy to take Americans who want to leave by road to neighboring Armenia. More than 170 Americans left Georgia on Sunday and Monday in two convoys. All Peace Corps volunteers in Georgia has left for Armenia. The department says the US Embassy in Tbilisi remains open for emergency services, and Americans who choose not to leave should consider moving to secure locations.
