Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad will arrive in New York early Saturday to speak at the UN Security Council before it votes on sanctions against the Islamic country for its refusal to suspend uranium enrichment, a council diplomat said. Ahmadinejad was to arrive at 1 a.m. Saturday at New York's John F. Kennedy International airport, the diplomat said on condition of anonymity because there has been no official announcement. The five veto-wielding members of the Security Council want a vote Saturday on a resolution to pressure Iran to cease uranium enrichment - a process used for making fuel for nuclear reactors or material for atomic bombs. Earlier, Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi claimed the US had not issued a visa for Ahmadinejad, accusing the White House of creating an "obstacle" for his plans to attend the council debate.
