Iran has not received any request from the United States to establish a diplomatic outpost in Teheran, according to a spokesman for the Islamic Republic's Foreign Ministry.
Hasan Qashqavi told reporters on Monday that Washington had not made a "formal" request to assign diplomats in the Iranian capital.
US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said Sunday that Washington was continuing to look at the idea of establishing a diplomatic outpost in Iran. Rice spoke while flying from India to Kazakhstan.
The US has not had formal diplomatic relations with Teheran for nearly 30 years.
