Russia seeks to water down Western demands on Iran

Russia wants to water down Western demands that Teheran stop working on a reactor that can produce plutonium and allow tougher UN inspections of its nuclear program, widening differences within the Security Council on how to sanction Iran, according to a document made available Wednesday to The Associated Press. The document - Moscow's proposed amendments to a Security Council draft resolution endorsed by the United States and its European allies - also deletes any reference to Iran's Bushehr nuclear plant, being built with Russia's help.
