Solana to visit Teheran but skeptical about breakthrough in nuclear talks

EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana on Wednesday confirmed he planned to go to Tehran shortly to discuss a repackaged set of incentives from major world powers intended to persuade Iran to halt its uranium enrichment program. "I don't expect miracles but I think it is important for us to keep extending a hand," Solana told the European Parliament. He did not give the exact date of his trip. Solana's spokeswoman Cristina Gallach told The Associated Press the details of the trip were still being worked out with the Iranians and a date has not formally been set. She said Solana would go "soon, but not immediately." In a debate on the EU's foreign policy, Solana told EU lawmakers it was important to continue to discuss international concerns about Iran's uranium enrichment program, which could give it a pathway to developing nuclear weapons.
