A 72-year-old man suspected of murdering his wife was remanded for nine days in a hearing in the Acre Magistrate's Court on Sunday afternoon. The man, Binyamin Avraham, allegedly killed his 70-year-old spouse Yoheved during an argument in the yard of their Kiryat Shmone home by smashing her skull with a rock. He was arrested at the scene, where Magen David Adom paramedics pronounced the wife dead. Avraham was questioned by police for some five hours and confessed to carrying out the offense. A legal aid representative said the 72-year-old was very confused, stressing that he had no criminal record. The court sent the man for a psychiatric examination. A request filed by relatives not to carry out an autopsy on the woman's body was rejected, but the court postponed the procedure for 24 hours to allow time for the family to appeal. The couple had nine children. Yaakov Lappin contributed to this report.
