Beinish permits election campaign ads in theaters

The chairman of the Central Elections Commission, Supreme Court Justice Dorit Beinish, overturned a decision by her predecessor Supreme Court Justice Mishael Cheshin that forbade running election campaign ads in movie theaters. In allowing the display of the ads, Beinish said she believed that preventing the display of campaign ads in theaters went against the principle of freedom of expression, and added that the power to prohibit specific campaign ads should be applied only in cases in which it was expressly forbidden by law.
