Brig.-Gen. Eli Marom appointed Israel's Navy commander

IDF Chief of General Staff Lt.-Gen. Gabi Ashkenazi appointed Brig.-Gen. Eli Marom Thursday as Israel's next commander of the Navy in place of Maj.-Gen. David Ben-Bashat who decided to prematurely step down from his post last month. Marom, whose last position was Israel's military attaché to Singapore, served in the past as deputy commander of the Navy and commander of Naval Intelligence. He was the favored candidate for the post. Marom played a key role in the 2002 capture of the Karine-A weapons ship.
