Egypt threatened on Sunday to stop its efforts to negotiate the release of kidnapped IDF Cpl. Gilad Shalit if no progress were made in the next few hours.
According to the latest offer presented to Hamas, Shalit will be released if Egypt pressures Israel to release Palestinian security prisoners and cease its military activity in the Gaza Strip.
Hamas rejected the proposal and insisted that Israel guarantee in writing the prisoners' release.
