Eilat replaces main sewage pipe

The City of Eilat dedicated its new main sewage pipe on Tuesday in a ceremony attended by Environmental Protection Minister Gideon Ezra. Replacing the pipe is part of a city-wide upgrade project in the works which will cost millions of shekels. The city decided to replace its main pipe and upgrade other elements in response to a plea from the Zalul organization, a watchdog group for Israel's seas. After the sewage pipe burst in October 2007 and allowed raw sewage to flow into the sea, Zalul turned to the city with a request to replace the main pipe and reevaluate their sewage system.
