The couple's grandson fled the scene after the incident. Army Radio reported that the grandson, who lived with at the couple's home had argued with his grandfather, and then stabbed him after he became angry. He then reportedly stabbed his grandmother who had been woken by the noise. She was stabbed several times.

The young man is known to police for being involved with drugs and violence and holds a criminal record. He recently divorced his wife. The suspect had previously resided with his mother, but moved to his grandparents due to his violent behavior towards his mother.

Police were searching for him on Monday morning, and an investigation of the circumstances surrounding the incident was ongoing.
