Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom said in an interview with Israel Radio Sunday morning that Israel will never release Palestinian prisoner Marwan Barghouti because he "is a murderer whose hands are covered in the blood of many Israelis." Yossi Sarid, head of Meretz-Yahad, disagreed, saying that Barghouti should be released because he is a true Palestinian leader who is interested in establishing peaceful relationships with Israel. On Friday, Barghouti won the Fatah primaries in the West Bank city of Ramallah with 96 percent of the vote.
