Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni called her counterpart in the Vatican on Friday evening, and informed him that Israel was dealing with the violence at the Church of the Annunciation in Nazareth with as much sensitivity as possible.
She assured him that Israel would preserve the sanctity of all Christian holy sites.
Hours earlier, riots erupted after a man and two women threw firecrackers inside the Nazareth church. No damage to the church was reported.
