As the IDF was increasing its alertness along the Egypt-Israel border, including the closure of Road 10 adjacent to the border, the Israeli Air Force killed four Hamas operatives in the Gaza Strip.
Two Hamas men were killed as they drove near the shattered border fence with Egypt and two more were killed while driving in Rafah town, Palestinian security officials said.
According to Palestinian sources quoted by Israel Radio, one of those killed was the commander of the Hamas military wing in Rafah.
In related news, Hamas official Mahmoud Nazal said his organization had no intention of killing IDF Cpl. Gilad Schalit, regardless of developments in the Gaza Strip since Israel's blockade several days ago.
"We did not capture Schalit in order to kill him or return for no price," Nazal told the Nazareth-based A-Sinara.
Nazal claimed that Schalit will be held captive until Israel would agree to Hamas's demands but said that all negotiations for his release have been suspended following the escalation in the Gaza Strip.
A Hamas official also warned Israel against an Israeli land incursion into the Gaza Strip, which would, he said, become "a cemetery for the Zionist occupiers."
