"We have no intention to remove the Zikim army base," commander of the Engineering Corps, Brig.-Gen. Shimon Daniel, said on Sunday, three days after a Kassam rocket lightly wounded five soldiers at the western Negev base.
Over the weekend, parents of soldiers serving on the base demanded of the IDF to upgrade the existing infrastructure so as to provide better protection. Some parents even threatened not to send their son/daughter back from the weekend vacation if changes were not made.
According to Brig.-Gen. Daniel, "The army will make every effort to minimize unnecessary risks."
