IDF magazine: Soldiers should be wary of snakebites during training

An IDF magazine reported that soldiers were getting special instructions about how to treat snakebites - and how to avoid them. The soldiers' weekly "Bamahaneh" related two cases of soldiers who were in serious condition after being bitten by poisonous snakes recently. The magazine's current issue says orders have gone out to field units to teach soldiers what to do, and what not to do. On the list of what to do - keep the stricken soldier calm and summon a medic. What not to do - don't use any of the well-known but harmful folk remedies, like trying to suck out the snake venom. The magazine said a specific order went out to women soldiers on bases where snakes might be lurking - don't wear open sandals.
