A representative of the Interior Ministry is expected to head for Ethiopia in the next few days to inform some 2,500 aliyah hopefuls living in refugee camps that they are not considered part of the Falash Mura, and that they do not fit the criteria that would enable them to immigrate to Israel, Army Radio reported Sunday night.
The Jewish Agency reported that the decision to do so was made years ago, but is only being implemented now.
Nonetheless, some 1,000 other Ethiopians who have already been approved for aliyah will be allowed to complete the immigration process.
The Interior Ministry reported that another 7,000 people from these refugee camps, which contain a total of some 23,000 people, are currently being examined for eligibility to make aliyah.
