Israel snubs Aussie request for brief cease fire

Israel rejected a request by Australia to briefly stop launching attacks on the northern border in order to allow its citizens to be evacuated from the region. "We asked Israel to temporarily stop firing so that we could evacuate our citizens, but it did not agree to our request," said Australian Foreign Minister Alexander Downer.
