J'lem police thwart criminal assassination attempt

Jerusalem police on Wednesday thwarted the attempted assassination of a leading underworld figure, police said. The police caught two Israeli criminals as they were placing a bomb under the vehicle of the would-be victim when it was parked in the city's Mea Shearim neighborhood, Jerusalem police spokesman Shmuel Ben-Ruby said. The two Jewish men, who are suspected of being active in the underworld, were brought to a Jerusalem court Wednesday for a remand hearing. Three other suspected leading city underworld figures were arrested Wednesday morning in the wake of the foiled attack, the police said.
